Band-Aid Smaller band, smaller prices. Go-to-venues like Lupos, the Red Room, and Jerky’s cater to smaller names and tighter wallets, with tickets usually from about $10 to $25. These locales are prime for fledgling local bands, like the wispy, neo-hippy rock the Low Anthem. Coming in May, the rootsy Americana band, Railroad Earth, will set you in the mood for spring with their Keroac-inspired lyrics and extensive grooving improv. Lupo’s Heartbreak Hotel, 79 Washington St., Providence. May 14, tickets are $20. Photo of The Low Anthem Willa Mamet, willamametphotography.com

$2 Date Check out movies on the cheap at Patriot Cinemas in East Providence, offering a slightly vintage movie selection for $2 a seat. If you’re taking a date, go on Tuesdays – where “anti-inflation” “recession special” tickets sell for only $1. Patriot Cinemas East Providence, Route 1A, Rumford.
