Weather Alert: All RIIL Hockey Games Postponed Friday 1/3

“All RIIL Boys’ and Girls’ Hockey games scheduled for today, Friday, January 3, have been postponed due to weather,” according to a news blast on the RIIL homepage. All Boys’ and Girls’ basketball games scheduled for the 3rd have also been postponed according to the schedules for those sports on the RIIL site.

North Smithfield

Division Record: 3-1 (Division 2 North)

Overall Record: 4-2

 

North Smithfield steals the final spot this week by virtue of their 5-4 win over Burrillville in tournament play last week.  The Northmen are helping establish the North as the top region in Division 2 thus far, joining Cumberland and Lincoln as the 3rd Division 2 North team to crack the Power Pack.

North Kingstown

Division Record: 3-1 (Division 2 South)

Overall Record: 4-1-1

 

North Kingstown beat Toll Gate 8-1 last Friday and the Skippers are back on track after losing to Cumberland in the previous game.  This weekend should be a big test for NK, as they're set to take on South Kingstown and a good Middletown team back to back.

South Kingstown

Division Record: 3-1 (Division 2 South)

Overall Record: 3-1-1

 

South Kingstown hasn't played in a while but the long layoff could be key in keeping the Rebels fresh as they're set to take on North Kingstown Friday night at URI's Boss Arena.  The winner will have big time bragging rights and move into first place in Division 2 South.

Prout

Division Record: 4-1 (Division 2 Central)

Overall Record: 5-2-1

 

Prout defeated Portsmouth and lost to Bishop Feehan in the Smithfield Holiday Tournament, furthering the case that they're still the top team in Division 2 Central this season.  The Crusaders then beat Rodgers/Tiverton/Rocky Co-op 3-0 on Tuesday.  This weekend, Prout is in line to face Mt. Hope and Cumberland.

Cranston Co-op

Divison Record: 3-2 (Division 1 Eccleston)

Overall Record: 4-3

 

Cranston Co-op went 1-1 in the Smithfield Holiday Tournament, besting Coyle but falling to Bishop Feehan in nonleague action.  Cranston remains the top team in Division 1 Eccleston in the standings and in the Power Pack.

Cumberland

Division Record: 4-0 (Division 2 North)

Overall Record: 5-0

 

Cumberland easily rolled over Johnston/North Providence Co-op last weekend and the Clippers have simply dominated Division 2.  With 30 goals for and only 1 against, the Clippers take on rival Lincoln Friday in a battle for Division 2 North supremecy.

Lincoln

Division Record: 6-0 (Division 2 North)

Overall Record: 6-0

 

Lincoln easily handled Portsmouth 9-0 last Friday and the Lions are the only team in the state with 6 league wins under their belts.  The Friday's game against Cumberland should be a great back and forth game, and the Lions then play East Greenwich on Saturday.

La Salle

Divison Record: 1-2-1 (Division 1 Cimini)

Overall Record: 3-3-1

 

La Salle really impressed with their Holiday Face-Off Tournament 3rd place finish, winning 2 games in the prestigious tournament and establishing themselves as one of the elite programs in the region.  The Rams take on Smithfield on Friday and then face Hendricken Saturday for the 3rd time in 2 weeks.

Mount St. Charles

Divison Record: 4-1 (Division 1 Cimini)

Overall Record: 6-4

 

Mount St. Charles won a game and lost twice in the Holiday Face-Off Tournament, but the Mounties hold onto my #2 spot ahead of La Salle because they've been better in RIIL action thus far.  Friday night MSC takes on Hendricken at Thayer Arena in the most anticipated game of the year thus far.

Hendricken

Divison Record: 3-0-1 (Division 1)

Overall Record: 6-0-1

 

Hendricken continues to have a dream season, wining the Holiday Face-Off Tournament over 7 other top hockey programs in the Northeast and remaining unbeaten on the season.  This weekend is a huge test for the Hawks again, as they'll play Mount St. Charles Friday and then take on La Salle on Saturday.
