The countdown to March Madness is on in RIIL basketball season. With just 2 weeks remaining in the regular season, the girls' hoops playoffs are looking promising, as several top teams are boasting long winning streaks and playing the best they have all season right now. One new face in the Top 10 this week, as well as some shifting near the Top 5 to break down. Here's the updated Power Pack.

Prout

Division Record: 9-3 (Division 2 South)

Overall Record: 10-7

 

Prout snags the final spot in this week's Power Pack.  The only tems to beat the Crusaders in Division 2 play this season are Rogers and Coventry (twice), and Prout has been spectacular otherwise in leage play.  The Crusaders will play Narragansett on Wednesday and West Warwick on Friday.

Juanita Sanchez

Division Record: 11-0 (Division 3 South)

Overall Record: 17-3

 

Juanita Sanchez continues to run roughshod over Division 3 competition, averaging over 70 points per game in divisional play and holding opponents to 35 points per contest.  Juanita Sanchez takes on Middletown on Tuesday and Central on Thursday with an undefeated season and 20 total wins still attainable for the year.

Coventry

Division Record: 11-1 (Division 2 South)

Overall Record: 15-3

 

Coventry lost to Rogers last Wednesday and had their unbeaten streak snapped, but the Oakers aren't dropping in the rankings for losing to the top ranked team in the state.  Coventry takes on East Greenwich on Tuesday and Narragansett on Friday.

St. Raphael

Division Record: 13-0 (Division 2 Central)

Overall Record: 13-2

 

Riding a 13 game winning streak, St. Raphael is making a statement in Division 2 this season, and with 3 games to go the possibility of an undefeated season is certainly there.  This week the Saints will face Pilgrim on Monday and Mt. Pleasant on Friday.

South Kingstown

Division Record: 10-3 (Division 1 South)

Overall Record: 12-4

 

South Kingstown beat Chariho last week but dropped a 2 point squeaker to Bay View on Friday.  The Rebels slide out of the Top 5 this week, but they have a chance to play their way back in this Thursday against North Kingstown.

La Salle

Division Record: 12-3 (Division 1 North)

Overall Record: 13-5

 

La Salle is back in the Top 5 after ripping off 5 wins in a row, and the Rams look to be peaking at the right time with playoff basketball right around the corner.  La Salle travels to Cumberland on Wednesday as they look to continue their winning ways and strong defensive resurgence (allowing under 31 points per game over the 5 game win streak).

Barrington

Division Record: 11-2 (Division 1 Central)

Overall Record: 13-5

 

Barrington hasn't lost in a month (last loss was 1/24 against North Kingstown) and the Eagles are going to get a chance to make a statement Tuesday when they take on division leader Bay View in Division 1 Central action.

North Kingstown

Division Record: 13-2 (Division 1 South)

Overall Record: 18-2

 

North Kingstown has won 5 games in a row, and the Skippers have seized control of Division 1 South with just 3 games to go.  A win thursday over South Kingstown will all but clinch the division for North Kingstown.

St. Mary's Bay View

Division Record: 14-0 (Division 1 Central)

Overall Record: 16-2

 

Bay View remains unbeaten in Division 1 and the Bengals are 4 wins away from a perfect regular season.  They'll face their toughest remaining challenge Tuesday when the host Barrington.

Rogers

Division Record: 12-0 (Division 2 East)

Overall Record: 18-0

 

Still unscathed, Rogers remains #1 in the Power Pack this week as they continue to coast to victory after victory.  How's this for dominance: The last time Rogers didn't win by double digits was December 13th, in their season opening win over a very good Barrington squad.  Next in the Vikings' path is Tiverton on Tuesday, followed by Central Falls on Friday.
