Hendricken's ace Mike King should be set to take the ball for the Hawks in game one.

Hendricken and North Kingstown won their best-of-three Final Four Series' this weekend, setting the stage for what should be a memorable Division I state baseball final.

Overcoming Adversity

Hendricken beat Johnston 2-1 in a best of three series this weekend, but it didn't come easy. After the Hawks rolled past the Panthers 8-0 in game one on an impressive pitching performance by undefeated ace right-handed pitcher Mike King, Johnston showed some resiliency, coming back the next day and beating Hendricken in a 5-4 extra innings thriller. Steve Perfetto was the hero for the Panthers, pitching 7.1 innings on the mound and driving in the winning run.

After singles by shortstop Ryan McKeon, and Steve and Mike Pennachia to start the bottom of the ninth, Perfetto delivered a bloop single to clinch the win and force a game three for the Panthers.

Korey Fijal came on in relief of Perfetto, picking up the win after throwing 1.2 innings of scoreless baseball.

However, the Hawks showed why they're the reigning Division I baseball champions, coming back with a 5-2 win over Johnston on Sunday afternoon to take the series 2-1.

Clean Sweep

North Kingstown, the top seed out of the South Division, took care of East Greenwich this weekend, beating the Avengers in two straight games to sweep the best-of-three series.

The Skippers took the first game easily, powering its way to a 7-0 victory. North Kingstown threw its ace pitcher Dominic Grillo in game one, who overpowered East Greenwich, keeping the Avengers' bats quiet all game long. Grillo has been dominant all season, compiling an 8-1 record and a 0.50 earned run average.

East Greenwich put up more of a fight in game two, but it was the same result. North Kingstown started strong, establishing a 4-0 lead after the first three innings. The Avengers cut its deficit to two, when they were able to get two runs on the board, making it a 4-2 game. However, North Kingstown's Chris Hess hit a three-run homer in the top of the sixth inning, giving the Skippers a 7-2 lead, putting the game out of reach for East Greenwich.

North Kingstown and Hendricken will play the first game of their best-of-three series at McCoy Stadium on Tuesday night.
