2) What has been the biggest challenge being a high school athlete?
The biggest challenge being a high school athlete is definitely time management because it becomes very difficult trying to balance practice time, school work and time with my friends. I am also striving to be a 12 letter Varsity athlete, which means there is no off-season for me.
3) What / who is your biggest motivator?
My dad has always been very supportive. Whether it is a tennis match or a track meet, he has always been there to share his experiences and offer positive reinforcement. I always giggle when my dad records my race on his cell phone and promptly emails the "unofficial" results to me.
4) Who is your biggest rival?
With track and tennis, my biggest rival is myself. I am always trying to better my game. In tennis, I am working to improve my first serve percentage and my two handed backhand. Track is a very individual sport where you race the clock so I am trying to improve my times and outdo my previous results.
5) What are you working to improve your game?
I workout all year and focus on cross training. I try to keep it different to keep myself motivated. This summer I coached tennis and then would workout with a coach and members of the football team. This type of cross training helps me build speed and endurance.
6.) What is your greatest memory on the field/track?
My best tennis memory is making Varsity as a freshman and winning my doubles match to help my team win the State Championship for our Division. My greatest track memory came this year at the Girls Class Championship. While I was coming into the final turn, I could see the official timer, which pushed me to pull through the finish with a new personal record and qualification for states.
7.) How are you able to balance your schoolwork with practices, games, and training?
I take advantage of my free periods and try to keep myself organized. There are definitely nights when I have to stay up late to meet deadlines but in the end it’s worth it.
8.) Where do you see yourself going from here, do you plan to pursue this sport in college?
I do hope to continue my running in college. It is a goal that I hope I can achieve through hard work and the continued support of my coaches and teammates.
