Twelve Rhode Island girls have committed to play college lacrosse next season.

North Kingstown’s Falynn McCartney plays midfield at LaSalle Academy and has signed on with Division I Central Connecticut State.

CCSU head coach Kelly Nangle said that she is very excited to have landed McCartney. “She’s an incredible athlete, and she hasn’t hit her full potential yet,” Nangle said. “She’s just a workhorse. I think her biggest asset is how athletic she is.”

Heading to Cornell

South Kingstown High’s Olivia Mattyasovszky will be playing Division 1 lacrosse, having signed with Cornell University.

Cornell head coach Jenny Grapp said that she recruited Mattyasovszky not only because of her physical gifts, but also because of her personality.

“We love how coachable she is, and that was instrumental in choosing her as one of our top recruits,” Grapp said.

Cranston native Christina Hammond will also be playing Division I lacrosse, signing on with Liberty University in Virginia.

Barrington junior Kelly Dolan finished third in the state with 81 points on 67 goals and 14 assists this season. She has verbally committed to Division 1 Dartmouth.

North Kingstown Girls Commit

Jamie Wadovick and Danielle Jennings, both of North Kingstown High, have committed to Rollins College and Plymouth State, respectively.

North Kingstown’s Alviti described Wadovick as “one of the fastest girls on the [high school] team,” and said that she and Jennings both played on the Rhode Island Metacomets, which is a travel team that competes all over the northeast.

Joining Jennings at Plymouth State will be Cranston’s Emily Tilton and Portsmouth’s Sarah Young.

Plymouth State head coach Kristin Blanchette described Tilton as “a really dynamic player, and a very strong midfielder.”

“She plays great defense, is a big threat on attack, and a dominant force between the 30s,” Blanchette said. “On top of that, she is one of the top students at [Cranston West].”

Blanchette also raved about defensemen Sarah Young. “She has the ability to be a shut-down defender for us. She could start right away next year because of her experience and defensive ability.”

Blanchette said that Jennings “is a really athletic, strong attacker. She’s got great skills, is very versatile in her style of play, and will be able to feed and score. She’s a great addition to our attack.”

Alexandra Briody is another lightning-quick attacker from North Kingstown, and will be heading to Bates College in Maine.

Heading West

Two Rhode Island girls will be heading west to Colorado College in the fall. Barrington’s Becca Gasperoni and East Greenwich’s Sammy Blair both signed on to play for the Division III school, located in Colorado Springs.

Head coach Susan Stuart said that it was merely coincidental that both girls ended up at Colorado College. Blair had become interested in the school and decided to send a recruiting tape to Stuart of her own accord, while Gasperoni was discovered at the Elite 180 lacrosse camp in Keene, New Hampshire.

“I’m very excited to have both of them,” Stuart said. “Sammy’s got great height, good size and she knows how to use it. Becca is a good little finisher inside under pressure, and she gets her shot off very quickly. They’re both going to be great additions to our team.”

Other College Lacrosse Commitments

Portsmouth goalie Jordan Borrosh will head to D-2 Queens College in North Carolina.

Caitlin Villareal of Portsmouth Abbey is the school’s all-time leader with 279 goals. She will take her talents to Saint Anslem College in New Hampshire in the fall.
