GAME ON: From RI to the NCAA - Phil Winslow

Phil Winslow led RI boy's lacrosse in scoring in 2008 and now he is the leading scorer for Clark University. Each year the most accomplished scholar-athletes take their awards and state championships and head off to compete in colleges and universities across the country.

How was the transition from being a high school athlete to becoming an athlete in college?
The transition from being an athlete in high school to an athlete in college was pretty smooth. I felt that I was properly prepared both physically and mentally with the skills to prosper as a college athlete. Although I am not there yet, I am continuing to make great strides to becoming a premier DIII athlete.
What do you miss most about playing in high school?
The thing that I miss most about playing in high school was playing under my coach, Josh Fenton. Although I did not always believe that playing under him was such a great thing at the time, he taught me many lessons both on and off the field. Not only did I become a better lacrosse player, but I also became a better individual.
What is your biggest challenge as a college athlete?
The biggest challenge that I have faced as a college athlete has been devoting as much time to my lacrosse game as I do my studies. Unfortunately at times, one or the other has had to take a backseat in my priorities, temporarily, to maintain a proper balance of my athletic and scholastic career.
What has been the most rewarding aspect of your athletic career?
One rewarding aspect of my athletic career was when we, Mt St Charles Lacrosse, won the RI D1-A State Championships my senior year. However, I am most grateful for the personal qualities that my athletic career has forced me to develop such as leadership, discipline, and steadfastness.
