Women & Infants Hospital held its 127th Annual Meeting this week, celebrating excellence in research. Doug Jacobs, chairman of the hospital’s Board of Trustees, told the standing-room-only audience of community leaders, physicians and hospital staff, “While we maintained the excellence of our clinical and academic programs over the past year, we did so with a new rigor and discipline which produced greater productivity, efficiency and process improvement success. We have faced challenge, and we continue to face challenge. But, most importantly, we continue to be the best resource for women and newborn babies in our area, and our reputation continues to grow regionally and nationally.”

Tech Advances Distinguish W&I

Constance Howes, the hospital’s president and CEO, expressed gratitude to those who continue to care for women and babies with challenging medical conditions at Women & Infants. She cited recent advances in technology; specifically the adoption of the Program in Women’s Robotic Surgery. “We have raised the standard in our relentless push to ensure patient safety and quality towards making Women & Infants the safest place for women and newborns,” she said. “We have established the goal of eliminating preventable harm.” Financially, Women & Infants finished fiscal 2010 with a $13.6-million gain from hospital operations.
