URI Awarded $2.85 Million for Research Center

The University of Rhode Island will receive $2.85 million from federal stimulus funds to construct a facility for prevention health research related to cancer, heart disease, HIV/AIDS, and substance abuse.
U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius briefly stepped away from implementing national health care reform to announce the awards given to upgrade and construct research facilities and laboratory space.
Grants totaling $1 billion from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds were divided among 146 institutions in 44 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. Donald H. DeHayes, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, is identified as the Principal Investigator for the funds.
