Monday, May 30, 2011
Students from Moses Brown School, Westerly High School and East Providence High School took top honors in the 2011 Safety is NO Accident video/poster contest, sponsors announced this week.
The Injury Prevention Center at Rhode Island Hospital, The Rhode Island Public Health Association and AAA of Southern New England sponsor the competition, which is held to draw attention to National Public Health Week (NPHW). This year’s NPHW theme was “Safety is NO Accident, Live injury-Free.”
“Accidental injury is the leading cause of death among people under 45 years of age,” said Dina Morrissey, MD, program coordinator for the Injury Prevention Center. “Individuals can greatly decrease their risk for an unintentional injury by modifying and changing risky behaviors. The goal of the Safety is NO Accident contest was to raise awareness of the important public health issue of safety and injury prevention.”
