Pink Rainbow Luncheon Raises Money for Local Cancer Centers
Wednesday, October 13, 2010
The Pink Rainbow Luncheon, an inspirational gathering to benefit cancer care, was recently hosted for the Comprehensive Cancer Center at Rhode Island Hospital, the Adele R. Decof Comprehensive Cancer Center at The Miriam Hospital and the Comprehensive Cancer Center at Newport Hospital. The afternoon also supported the Pink Rainbow Project, which distributes comfort gift bags to newly diagnosed cancer patients at the three centers with items ranging from inspirational books to music to a satin pillowcase, all to offer peace, hope and little reassurance. The project also offers support groups and educational resources to any patient in need.
The guest speaker at the luncheon, which took place at Newport’s Belle Mer, was internationally-acclaimed author Anita Shreve, a recipient of the John P. Marquand Prize in American Literature, who has penned 16 sixteen novels including The New York Times best seller, The Pilot’s Wife.
