Newport Hospital Earns Designation from WHO and UNICEF

Saturday, August 28, 2010

Happy Babies: The Noreen Stonor Drexel Birthing Center at Newport Hospital has received its second consecutive Baby Friendly designation from the World Health Organization and UNICEF.

One of the biggest pieces of evidence: currently, 80% of the mothers who've had babies at the Birthing Center breastfeed their babies (shown here are a group of moms in Newport Hospital's breastfeeding support group with their infants). And Newport Hospital believes that most of its mothers continue to breastfeed for at least six months after they leave the hospital.

Newport Hospital is the only hospital in Rhode Island to hold both Magnet designation and Baby Friendly designation.
