The larvicide is place in underground storm water catchment basins which are prime breeding areas of mosquitos that carry West Nile Virus. Four Star, a briquette that released environmentally benign bacteria over a 90 day period, will be distributed. Only one application is required per season.
It is recommended that cities and towns treat all underground catchment basins with larvicide. As part of Wednesday’s event, DEM will provide communities with enough briquettes to treat approximately half of their total basins. Additional product may be purchased directly from the distributor.
