Fighting cancer and coming out on the other side is often thought of as the greatest battle for people who have faced cancer, but for many survivors, putting the pieces back together after cancer is an entirely new challenge. Moreover, advances in medicine have led to earlier diagnoses and better treatment of most cancers. As a result, there are nearly 10 million cancer survivors in the United States alone, and that number continues to grow each year, according to national reports. The Leonard and Adele R. Decof Family Comprehensive Cancer Center at The Miriam Hospital is offering a cancer survivorship lecture series to address many of the issues that cancer survivors face as they readjust to everyday life following treatment. Adults who have been diagnosed with cancer, along with their families, friends or caregivers, are welcome to attend this free series.

Five different topics to aid survivors and their families cope have been planned: Good Nutrition for Cancer Survivors; Coping Strategies for Loss, Grief and Building a New Definition of Life; Genetic Testing: Do I Need It and What Does It Mean?; The Benefits of Exercise, and Ask the Doctor, Ask the Physical Therapist.
