Ahh... Valentine's Day. Love it or eschew it, you gotta admit it makes you think of cozy dinners with your special someone. We set out to find five top spots where Cupid might make an appearance, and came up with these.
Chez Pascal, Providence
The French seem to have helped perfect the idea of the romantic meal (views of the Tour Eiffel don't hurt, either), and stateside we've got our share of restaurants that continue the tradition. On the East Side of Providence, Chef Matt and Kristen Genuoso, themselves a lovely couple, continue to set the standard for romantic hospitality and the rich, delicious, French-style foods that go with that. We suggest the escargots followed by the cassoulet (it even sounds romantic, doesn't it?), topped off with chocolate for dessert.

Inn at Castle Hill, Newport
It doesn't matter if it's February or July, the Inn at Castle Hill, in Newport, is at the very top of most romantic lists and with good reason. Easily one of the most beautiful places on the East Coast, both inside and out. The unbridled beauty of the sweeping ocean views is, somehow, equaled by the treats coming from the kitchen. Chef Karsten Hart and his team are masters of raising the level of romance with each bite. It really shines in a current dessert: peanut butter and jelly. Grape gelee, peanut butter gelato and naguette tuiles. It brings your childhood crush to the 21st century!

Gracie's, Providence
What sets Gracie's apart is that whenever you've asked yourself "What are the best restaurants in Rhode Island?" Gracie's has been on the list. Owner/muse Ellen Slattery is one of the grande dames of the Providence food scene and has done a stellar job of selecting chefs. The current chef, Matthew Varga, produces beautiful and delicious dishes that hold Gracie's legacy in good stead. The dining room is old school romantic with large windows heightening the drama. It's a classic!

Restaurant Bouchard, Newport
Amongst a large group of our chef friends, this is their go-to stop for romance and delicious cuisine. They rave about the authenticity of the flavors and the freshness of the ingredients. We rave about the same...and more. The menu is just as you'd find in France: locally sourced and seasonally appropriate takes on classic dishes. The use of local seafood is highlighted throughout the menu and is--obviously--one of their strong points. The olive oil poached salmon was a standout. The decor is Old World, and that means cozy.

Bacaro, Providence
A rustic and cozy downstairs, an upstairs with gorgeous views of the city. Should be enough, right? Add Chef Brian Kingsford's to-die-for takes on rustic Italian dishes and you've got a winner. Share many small plates of tasty snacks or a cheese board -- you custom-order to suit your and your special someone's tastes. Or split a couple of pasta dishes -- they change with the seasons according to what's freshest. Order some wine or a Prosecco, linger for a while. You'll be oh so happy you did.
