NEW: Huffington Post Names RI’s La Lupita To Best Tacos List

Friday, March 22, 2013

La Lupita Tacos Mexicanos in Providence gets some big love on the national taco stage today in the Huffington Post.

The taco spotlight is shining brightly on Providence's La Lupita Tacos Mexicanos restaurant today, thanks to the Huffington Post, which featured it in a new article, The Best Tacos in America.

The Olneyville eatery earned its spot on the list by being the favorite go-to for tacos in the opinon of longtime Providence Journal staffer Gail Ciampa, who was polled along with 9 other food writers to name the best tacos in their hometowns.

The Providence shout-out was the only New England city polled in the feature, which also named top tacos in Austin, Chicago, Denver, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Phoenix, San Antonio, and San Diego.

While some may scoff at the presence of taco culture in a New England state, GoLocalProv Food Editors Ann & Michael Martini think there are some surprising finds in the Ocean State, from great Mexican restaurants to top-notch food trucks. "Rhode Island is a long way from Mexico, but we remain today a terrific spot for immigrants to settle," they say. "So it is that we have become a very small state with some very good Mexican restaurants."

Check out GoLocal's top spots for Mexican food, here.

Meanwhile, to find out what all the buzz is about, drop in to La Lupita on 1950 Westminster Street in Providence.
