New England is known for it's love of alcohol, as the oldest region in the country it is also the birthplace of some of the most popular craft breweries in America.

Here are the rankings of each New England state according to statistics based on factors like alcohol consumption and breweries per capita.

According to a recent ranking of the booziest states in America, New England is home to some very alcohol-friendly states.

All New England states fell within the top 66% of states nationally ranked based on their love of booze.

6. Connecticut

The economic impact of craft beer in Connecticut totals $373,592,000.

The "Constitution State" is also home to many a vineyard and new breweries - not bad for a state that still honors blue laws!

5. Massachusetts

Massachusetts finds itself as the fifth booziest state in New England with 1.2 craft breweries per 100,000 residents

Massachusetts is most well-know for its Samuel Adams Boston Larger and houses the Samuel Adams brewery inside it's borders.

4. New Hampshire

New Hampshire comes in fourth of the booziest states in New England with 4.65 gallons of alcohol consumed per capita

This is in part because of the comparatively low state liquor taxes in the state which brings in drinkers from the surrounding states, boosting the stats for New Hampshire

3. Rhode Island

In Rhode Island, there is one bar for every 3,982 residents and with all those places to drink, the average Rhode Islander goes through 2.72 gallons of alcohol on an annual basis

The state also sees about $110.9 million rolling into its economy from alcohol sales.

2. Maine

Coming in as the number two is Maine. 

In Maine, there are 4.7 craft breweries for every 100,000 residents.

Maine is home to many a popular brewing company including: Allagash, Shipyard, Maine Brewing, and Peak Organic to name a few.

1. Vermont

The number one booziest state in New England is Vermont. 

In Vermont, there are 6.2 craft breweries per capita including: Magic Hat, and Otter Creek.

Then there is Vermont's prized and hard-to-find beer known as Alchemist's Heady Topper which is a chrome-canned double IPA. In fact, it is so hard to get that there is a black market for it. 

All of this, makes Vermont the #1 booziest state in New England.
