Don’t Miss: Taste of the Flower Show

Tuesday, February 07, 2012

A delicious way to get a sneak peek at this year's Spring Flower Show and help the Food Bank.

The words "beautiful" and "delicious" will compete for attention at a tasty fundraiser that will open this year's Rhode Island Spring Flower and Garden Show. "Taste of the Flower Show Preview Party" will bloom on Wednesday, February 22, from 6-9pm at the RI Convention Center and feature fare created by more than 20 Rhode Island restaurants, caterers, breweries, wineries and distilleries. Proceeds will benefit the Rhode Island Community Food Bank.

Further, guests will be the first to see this year's lush garden displays of the Rhode Island Spring Flower and Garden Show, whose theme this year is “Simple Pleasures."

Simple Pleasures

“It’s especially appropriate that the theme of this year’s Flower Show is Simple Pleasures,” said Food Bank CEO Andrew Schiff.  “Food, the simplest pleasure on earth, remains hard to come by for too many Rhode Islanders. Events like the Taste of the Flower Show help bring this into focus.”

Ticket sales will help the Food Bank continue to serve Rhode Islanders in need of food during increasingly hard times this season. More than 60,000 people now rely on the Rhode Island Community Food Bank’s statewide network of 163 emergency food pantries to help meet their basic food needs. The need for food assistance in Rhode Island has risen 58% since the start of the recession four years ago.  Nearly one out of three persons served by the Food Bank is a child under the age of 18.

Tickets for the event cost $75, of which $50 is a tax-deductible gift to the Food Bank. Participating organizations include:

B. Pinelli's Simply Italian
