It's as Rhode Island an event as you can have, and for a great cause.

Hemenway’s Seafood Grill and Oyster Bar and Waterman Grille will be bringing oyster-lovers' heaven to Providence next weekend, with the 7th Annual Oyster Festival at Memorial Park in Providence on Saturday, September 17th from noon-5pm. One hundred percent of the proceeds will benefit the Ronald McDonald House of Providence. Admission is free; food and drink tickets are available for sale.

Guests will have the opportunity to taste a selection of the region’s best shellfish, clam chowder, and clam cakes from Hemenway’s and a selection of Waterman Grille’s signature dishes.  A variety of beer and wine will also be available, including Newport Storm’s Castle Hill Windward Weiss, Harbor Town Sauvignon Blanc, and Gallo Wines.

New: oyster eating competition for $100

In addition, oyster lovers can challenge themselves by eating as many oysters as possible in one minute during the inaugural oyster-eating contest.  The competition will take place at 1pm and 3pm and the winners will receive a $100 Hemenway’s gift card.

7th Annual Oyster Festival, Saturday Sept 17 noon-5pm (oyster eating contest at 1 and 3pm), Memorial Park (adjacent to Hemenway's), 121 South Main St.
