Vegans, the lactose intolerant, and the dairy allergic now can get their just desserts.

According to the ADA, 30 to 50 million Americans are lactose intolerant.  FoodAllergy.org states that approximately 2.5% of children younger than 3 years of age are allergic to milk.  On the other hand,

whether the choice to be vegan is for health, environmental, or ethical reasons, the number of vegans is growing.  What is a vegan?  A vegan, in addition to being a vegetarian, does not eat animal by-products such as eggs and dairy.  Each population has limited menu choices when it comes to cheese, milk, or ice cream.  Until now.

Like No Udder is New England’s first non-dairy soft serve ice cream truck, created by Warwick resident Karen Krinsky. “Years of research have culminated into this dream, and we hope you have a chance to share in the joy that is vegan soft serve,” she said.

Karen’s husband Chris Belanger said, “One mother was practically in tears when she learned that her lactose-intolerant five-year-old can now go up to an ice cream truck and order whatever he wants – just like the other kids!”

“We’re filling a void in a community that is underserved,” Krinsky said. As the only 100% vegan business in RI, more menu items will be added.  The purple, polka-dotted truck has been spotted on the East and West Sides of Providence and is available for public and private events, including fund-raising activities. Like No Udder will be at Pride Fest in Providence on June 19. Call 419-8869 for where the truck is on any specific day.
