The Daily Meal, the site for all things food and drink, recently put together a ranking of the country's best bakeries, from neighborhood staples to high-end patisseries. Rhode Island's own Seven Stars Bakery, with two Providence locations and a third in Rumford, was the sole representative from the Ocean State, coming in at number 35.

Seven Stars, founded in 2001 by Lynn and Jim Williams, has become a staple in the community at both its Hope Street and Broadway locations, as well as itheir store in Rumford.  With great coffee, and even better breads and pastries, it is not uncommon to see lines stretching out the door. However, Seven Stars is worth the wait.

"We are so honored to be on the Daily Meal's Top 50," said Lynn Williams.  "We are in great company and have great respect for some of the others that we know on the list."

The Daily Meal considered bakeries from every state to compile a list of 1,400 establishments. Twenty-four states ended up in the top 50, including standouts in Massachusetts, New York, Washington DC, and many others scattered throughout the country from South Dakota to Virginia.

In addition to whether the bakery sells bread, pastries, or both, The Daily Meal based their scores on "bakeries' originality, how long they've been around for, if they have notable and award-winning chefs, if they make all their baked goods from scratch, and their buzz factor." They also wrangled an expert panel that included Dominique Ansel, Pichet Ong, and Eric Kayser to give their opinions.

Of the more than 6,000 retail bakeries in the US, five others in New England cracked the top 35. Check them out below and find the complete list here.
