Message: From GoLocalProv by GoLocalProv News Team: The most charitable communities in Rhode Island are located in Providence, South Kingstown, and Newport, according to federal income tax data obtained from the Chronicle of Philanthropy. The data, which ranks communities on the basis of how much of the median discretionary income is donated, shows that charitable giving varies widely across the state. Generosity does not necessarily correspond with geography, income levels, or the population density in a given community, according to the data, which is from 2008, the latest available year. Communities were identified on the basis of their ZIP Codes, sometimes corresponding to villages within a town and others encompassing whole cities.
