Spetrini, GoLocalProv News Editor: The Rhode Island Department of Education’s (RIDE) decision to mandate students be at least “partially proficient” in mathematics and reading on their NECAP testing has been a subject of much debate for years. But now, as an estimated 4,200 members of the Class of 2014 faces the very real possibility that they won’t graduate next year without improvement, education leaders, parents and students are calling for the department to back off of its high-stakes mandate before it’s too late.
