Who Is the Biggest Investor in RI? Verizon invested $100 M in Wireline

In 2011,Verizon continued to bring communications and computing innovation to the RI's consumers and businesses. According to the company, Verizon invested more than $100 million in its Rhode Island wireline communications networks and IT infrastructure last year.

“A strong and vibrant Verizon is crucial to the economic well-being of Rhode Island and its residents,” said Manuel J. Sampedro, region president of consumer and mass business markets for Verizon. 

“...no other company invests in Rhode Island like Verizon, providing an engine for economic growth through our aggressive wireline and wireless network and IT deployment,” said Sampedro. “Our significant infrastructure investment is removing traditional technological boundaries, empowering people and businesses to connect however, whenever and wherever they want. This borderless lifestyle brings great benefits to our customers, employees, suppliers and communities.”

Verizon’s  wireline infrastructure programs last year included:

· Continued deployment of the company’s award-winning, 100 percent fiber-optic FiOS TV and FiOS Internet services. In 2011, Verizon extended FiOS service to more consumers and businesses in Rhode Island, with the services available to hundreds of thousands of homes and businesses at year’s end.

· Enhancements that further differentiate FiOS services. · Accelerated deployment of fiber-optic links to wireless carriers’ cell sites throughout Rhode Island as these carriers expand their infrastructure to meet ever-growing demand for wireless broadband and advanced 4G services. In 2011, Verizon deployed fiber optics to connect 81 of these sites in the state.
