Who Is RI's Favorite TV Sportscaster? Take Our Exclusive Poll

Rhode Island is rich in sports History. From the RI Reds Hockey Team – to iconic TV sportscaster Chris Clark – we take our sports pretty seriously around here. PC Friars, Rhody Rams, Brown Bears, the Paw-Sox, and the Providence Bruins are all favorites. Because of our close proximity to Boston – we also like to cheer on or complain about the Red Sox, Celtics and the Pats as well.

So, who around here is the most popular TV Sports Anchor at Channel’s 10, 12, 6 or GoLocalTV?

Frank Carpano/Channel 10

For 31-years, Frank Carpano has been with Channel 10. He has been sports director and primary sports anchor since 1984. Carpano is one of two most well known TV sports personalities in the Providence Market. In addition to his duties at 6 and 11pm – Carpano has hosted the station’s PC Basketball show, and is voice you hear at the Dunk during PC games. Carpano has built a strong reputation here covering all kinds of high school, college and pro sports. As of late, he has also taken on duties as weekend news anchor as the station shuffled around its anchor line up.

Ken Bell/Channel 6

The other sports guy that is the most known in the market – is Ken Bell over at Channel 6. Bell, who has been with the station for 25-years, still shows a passion for reporting and covering sports. His history in the market only helps to give Channel 6 credibility and frankly if management ever decided to get rid of him it would be one of the dumbest moves they could ever make. Bell, like Carpano, looks for local sports stories that are memorable and knows how many times Mount Saint Charles has won a hockey championship or what position Rocco Baldelli played at Hendricken High School.

Eric Murphy/Channel 12

Eric Murphy is the sports director at Channel 12. Murphy took over for Patrick Little when he was promoted to the morning anchor position. Compared to Carpano and Bell, Murphy is the “young buck” in the market and has few Paw Sox games and Thanksgiving Day football games to cover before he is on the level of the other two main sports anchors. To his credit, Murphy gets out there and has fit in nicely with the Eyewitness News team. Prior to coming to Providence, Murphy worked in smaller markets in Pennsylvania and Des Moines.

Scott Cordischi/GoLocalTV

Scott Cordischi can been regularly on GoLocalTV providing exclusive insight into sports stories he breaks or breaking down the latest Pats win or Red Sox loss. This past year he has broken nearly every major story with PC basketball - his exclusive naming Coach Cooley as PC's coach week before any other news organization.

Cordischi could be called upon to write the Dictionary of local sports teams, coaches, and stats given his vast knowledge of the sports market here in Providence. His broadcast experience is wide and varied and includes long running successful sports talk shows on 790-The Score and WPRO. In addition, Cordischi lends his unique voice to the Brown Basketball and Football teams as play-by-play announcer.

John Rooke/GoLocalTV

John Rooke has been a fixture in Rhode Island sports on both TV and radio for more than 20-years. Rooke can also be seen right here on GoLocalTV providing expert analysis and commentary on everything ranging from college basketball to the scandal at Penn State. Rooke who spent many years as the main sports anchor at Channel 12 - has been the voice of the PC Frias for decades, done work for ESPN, Fox Sports Net, Boston TV & radio, plus radio sports shows at WCBS, WPRO, WEEI-FM and much more. A pro's pro.
