Tockwotton Home announced yesterday that it had obtained financing for its $53.2 million relocation from Providence to a 12-acre waterfront property in East Providence.

A groundbreaking for the new site will be on June 24.

Between groundbreaking and opening day, the project will add over 600 construction jobs to the Rhode Island economy and will generate approximately $7 million of revenue for Rhode Island vendors in material sales.

Additionally, at the time of the opening, there will be 36 more permanent health care jobs available in the Home.

“This is a critical project for the [East Providence] waterfront district,” said East Providence Planning Director and Executive Director of the Waterfront District Jeanne Boyle. “The building design is beautiful, and construction of this new community will be a catalyst for other development in the city.”

The new facility will enable each of the 156 residents to have their own apartment, complete with a private bathroom, Wi-Fi, cable TV and telephone services. It will also include four unique sections offering different services. The new Tockwotton Home will be equipped with a memory-support household, an assisted living residence, a transitional-support household as well as a nursing home design where residents will be able to maintain the routines while still being under constant care.

Tockwotton Home has been helping Providence’s senior citizens since 1856 and has been recognized as a five-star Medicare community.
