PPS Highlights Wayland Square On House Tour This Weekend

Providence's Wayland Square is where it's at.

Sales here are on the rise. With a median price of $306K in April, home sales in this historic area were up 60%.

The fall in the median price by about 15% from 2009 may be the reason for increased sales. Those who fall in love with the Wayland neighborhood are finding great prices on homes rich with history.

However, you don't have to be house hunting to take a look at some fabulous Providence homes this weekend. Take a walking tour of nine historic homes on Providence's East Side on Saturday and celebrate The Providence Preservation Society's annual Festival of Historic Houses.

On Saturday June 5, the PPS will host a traditional house tour, featuring beautiful houses in the historic Wayland neighborhood. The tour runs from 11am to 5pm and you will have a chance to view a variety of architectural periods including Gothic, Colonial revival, Queen Anne and English regency.

These homes are rich in history and a must-see for anyone who would love a sneak peek at Providence’s late 19th- and early 20th-century domestic life. The homes have now been adapted for modern living by their owners in an area that is now listed in the National Register of Historic Places.

The Providence Preservation Society's Festival of Historic Houses starts at 11am on Saturday and begins on the East Side of Providence on and near Humboldt Avenue.

Tickets come with a map and are $40 on the day of the tour. Pick them up at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church, 50 Orchard Ave, Providence. Call the Providence Preservation Society for more information, 831-7440.
