A nice holiday gift for Salve Regina: the university's department of business studies and economics has received a reaffirmation and accreditation from the International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education (IACBE), effective through November 2018.

Included in the specialized accreditation are both graduate and undergraduate business programs offered at the university, including: the master of business administration; master of science in management; master of science in healthcare administration and management; and bachelor of science in accounting, business administration, financial management, global business and economics, and marketing.

Following its site visit, the IACBE board of commissioners commended the university’s business department for fully implementing its Outcomes Assessment Plan, and for implementing a dynamic, comprehensive and integrated strategic planning process.

An important milestone

“The accreditation process is a rigorous and demanding endeavor that assures the future of our programs; it is one method to prove that out students are appropriately prepared for the professional world they will enter,” said Myra Ellen Edelstein, department chair. “It is an important milestone for our department.”

Edelstein said IACBE has had a long history of focusing on outstanding teaching and learning. Its accreditation applauds not only the credentials of the faculty, but the methods and results those faculty produce.

“Effective teaching leads to successful student learning outcomes and to the long-term success of our students,” Edelstein said. “We work to help our students recognize that they will be life-long learners; the education we provide them today is just the start.”
