Hasbro will be opening its new Providence location at the former Blue Cross Blue Shield Building at 15 LaSalle Square, a company official confirmed today.

The move will create nearly 300 new jobs and constitute a $24 million investment in the city from Hasbro, the national toy-making giant which is headquartered in Pawtucket. The new location is being funded in part by $1.6 million in tax credits from the state.

“Hasbro’s expansion is part of the company’s continued emergence as a leading branded play and family entertainment company that will create nearly 300 new full-time jobs in Rhode Island,” the state Economic Development Corporation said in a news release. “The move will further bolster the growing knowledge economy in Providence and will be a significant addition to the creative and technological talent base already flourishing around the city’s Knowledge District.”
