video: Alex and Ani Creates HERO Charm Bangle to Benefit Hasbro

Friday, July 29, 2011

Hasbro Children’s Hospital has a beautiful new way for supporters to show they care with the creation of the HERO Expandable Wire Bangle from Rhode Island’s own Alex and Ani, Inc. The HERO charm bangle is the latest creation from Alex and Ani’s Charity by Design initiative.

Alex and Ani founder, Designer Carolyn Rafaelian, works closely with organizations in creating a unique jewelry design that embodies their message and reflects the beauty of each charitable organization. The HERO charm bangle was designed exclusively for Hasbro Children's Hospital with 20 percent of proceeds being donated to the hospital.

Watch a video about the partnership, here.

A word for heroic caregivers, patients and families

“I cannot think of a stronger, more appropriate word that embodies bravery, dedication, and resilience than the word ‘Hero’, said Rafaelian. “Words truly are powerful and this charm represents the heroes who share their passion and commitment with Hasbro Children's Hospital. It is also representative of the heroic patients and families who are all continuous sources of inspirational strength and courage. I am honored to support and continuously be inspired by all the heroes that treat, protect, and ultimately keep our children happy and healthy.”

"I'd been working with Hasbro Children's Hospital for almost a year in terms of developmental opportunities," said Nicki Castonguay, VP of Charity by Design. "We decided it would be a no-brainer to move forward and design a charm. We wanted something that our Alex and Ani lovers could embrace and also that the Hasbro community of caregivers and supporters could wear." The HERO charm bangle, which is available in Russian silver or Russian gold, sells for $28.

A perfect partnership

Castonguay added that this partnership is indeed the inaugural project of the Charity by Design initiative at Alex and Ani. "This is the perfect way to launch this program, with a local organization such as Hasbro," she said.

“The message attached to the HERO charm is that heroes come in all shapes and sizes, and that they are the people who empower and impact the lives around them through their compassion and courage,” said Susan Roux, chief development officer for Hasbro Children’s Hospital. “Wearing the bangle represents the hero in you as a supporter of Hasbro Children's Hospital and our efforts to provide world class care to children.”

'Words Are Powerful'

The HERO Charm Bangle will be featured as part of Alex and Ani’s Words Are Powerful Collection. This collection promotes the message that everyone possesses the ability to be heard and to positively influence others upon realizing that their words are powerful and can bring strength, enthusiasm, and confidence. The thoughts and words individuals share with others can encourage change and spread positivity.

“The commitment level and overwhelming support surrounding the HERO charm bangle proves just how powerful courage and inspiration is while healing,” said Castonguay.

Alex and Ani’s philosophy is that people everywhere are anxious to participate in creating change and empowering those who so clearly need assistance. By allowing consumers to enter the charitable world through their purchases, Alex and Ani hopes a new generation of philanthropists will emerge.

The HERO charm bangle, $28, is currently available at Alex and Ani retail stores, and online at www.alexandani.com.

What a wonderful story about a local Rhode Island Manufacturing company that is growing and supporting their community. This gesture certainly describes exactly what "Charity by Design" is all about.
