Most Women On-Air

Following our story about who had the most “street” reporters at the three local TV stations, this question was asked by an avid GoLocal reader. “Which station has the most females on air?" Well, we decided to take a look at that. While two stations are equal – Channel 12 has the highest number of female anchors and reporters with 8 on staff according to our count. Channels 6 & 10 are tied with 6 females in on-air roles.

The switch at Lite Rock 105 was needed after radio personality Lori Sergiacomi, aka Tanya Cruise, was let go from the station following her role in an insurance fraud scam. Sergiacomi is scheduled to be sentenced tomorrow in Federal Court where she is asking for probation. For pleading guilty, the government is saying it will ask for 4 months in jail and 4 months of community confinement.

Dallas Morning News - Projo's Sister Paper Goes Local

The Dallas Morning News, the sister paper of the Providence Journal and also owned by Dallas-Based A.H. Belo, launched a local initiative last week. They have been losing readers and suffering a loss of circulation and advertisers. (Remember when the Providence Journal had local offices with reporters in them?) The Dallas initiative is called Neighborsgo. A.H. Belo's stock has dropped from a 52-week high of $9.22 per share to $5.20 at yesterday's close.

New Voice In Town

Lite Rock 105 – owned by Citadel Broadcasting (for now until Cumulus takes over) – has added a new voice to the mid-day broadcast. Amy Pontes is now the 10am to 3pm jock. Prior to this gig, she could be heard on various local stations doing traffic. As you may know, longtime radio man Gary DeGraide had been filling in after coming out of retirement. He had been with the station for a bunch of years in the morning drive slot.

Matt Lauer Hits The Road

Channel 10 is no doubt pretty psyched that the “Where In the World Is Matt Lauer” travel segment is being brought back after being put on the shelf for “economic reasons”. If you haven’t seen it, Lauer travels to fancy and exotic places and there is a guessing game of where he is. It’s a ratings boost for NBC which means good news for Channel 10. Lauer, as you may know, worked at Channel 10 during the PM Magazine days. The “Where In the World” segment debuts for the November ratings period—of course.

New Set In The Works

Channel 12 is busy behind the scenes creating its new set. If you look close, you can see a temporary set of sorts has already been set up. The station is also working on making the switch to HD. Don’t be surprised to see the new set come the November ratings period—which really begins at the end of October.

Top 5 Radio Stations

A look at the Arbitron numbers for the period ending in July shows that the top 5 rated radio stations in Providence are as follows. Keep in mind that these numbers show listenership from 6am to midnight which equates to total listeners for a particular station and is not broken down by day-parts. Drum roll please...

1. 92 Pro-Fm
2. Lite Rock 105
3. 94-HJY
4. B-101
5. 98.1 Cat Country
