GoLocal has learned from sources Monday early afternoon that the first change on the anchor desk has occurred at Channel 6.

Main anchor---Allison Alexander who anchored the 6pm and 11pm shows with John DeLuca has now parted ways with the station as of today we are told by station insiders. Alexander would only confirm to us that she is no longer with the station.

Sources tell us that Alexander’s contract had been the subject of the discussion for the owners who have recently taken over Channel 6. Alexander by all accounts was good to work with and had an aggressive style which brought some excitement to the anchor desk. She maintained high energy and worked to engage the viewer.

Alexander’s next TV move is not known but recently she did launch her own website called amomknowsbest.com which provides a wide range of information for working Mom’s. The site, which is impressive (even though I am not a working mom) has been live for about a month now and has a personal touch from Alexander all through the site.

GoLocal reached out to News Director Dan Fabrizio for comment on Alexander leaving but we have not heard back so far. The station did put out a news release naming Karen Meyers as the new anchor late this afternoon after GoLocal started to ask about the departure of Alexander. Meyers, according to the release, has worked at New England Cable News, and at a station in Washington, DC , and Burlington, Vermont. She will apparently start this week.

This move comes just days after we reported here about a major flare up between the other main anchor John DeLuca and new Citadel Communications owner Phil Lombardo. According to our sources, it was close to news time one recent afternoon. Today most newsrooms have lap-top computers right on the anchor set which allows the anchor folks to review and pre-read scripts. It also allows them to make changes quickly and re-print scripts that they have in front of them while they read along on the teleprompter. Turns out when DeLuca got up on the set, his lap-top was gone so he apparently started to question where it was and why was it gone. That is when according to station insiders, Lombardo started yelling at DeLuca. People who were there say it was ugly and uncalled for.

FCC a done deal

We can also update the sale of Channel 6 as well. According to newsblues.com, the FCC as of May 12th, officially transferred the ownership rights to Citadel. All along this was a given but now it is official as far as the FCC is concerned and paperwork for the license.

So a new day arrives at Channel 6. With lots of changes and reports of low morale. These new owners sure have some work to do to fix two things:

1. Ratings

2. How their employees feel about their new boss

You could argue #2 is more important before you can even think about #1.
