Attorney, artist and neighborhood activist Barbara Harris takes over the Providence Rotary as its new president.

The Rotary Club of Providence has elected Barbara Harris as its 102nd president. A native of Springfield, Massachusetts, Harris has lived in Providence since 1983 with her husband, Seth Kurn.

“Rotary is one of those unique organizations which make ordinary people do extraordinary things,” she said, quoting Microsoft founder Bill Gates. “I am honored to have been chosen for this role at the Rotary Club of Providence, and I look to working with Rotarians in Providence and beyond in the year ahead,” she said.

Harris: Attorney + Artist

Harris has practiced law for over 25 years in Rhode Island and Massachusetts and is currently an elected member of the Democratic Ward 2 Committee on Providence’s East Side neighborhood. She is also an oil painter, holding exhibits of her work throughout New England. Harris pointed out that among the Rotary's community activities is “an extraordinary event for the arts and the community,” the upcoming 13th annual Street Painting Festival on September 29 in Kennedy Plaza.
