Joe Paolino’s investment of energy, money and vision to enhance Providence through public art is a great example of community leadership.

The former Mayor and Ambassador could easily sit back and enjoy the fruits of his labor, but instead is investing in public arts with the lighting of the arches at the top of 100 Westminster Building.

The lights transform -- the south-facing view sends messages to the children at Hasbro’s Children Hospital, and both begin the process of transforming the city from day to night.
Paolino’s investment stands in stark contrast to the dark and dingy Superman building that has been empty for three plus years. The developer refuses to light the building.
For Paolino, this is the second recent example of investing in public art. He underwrote the painting of the archways at the facade on Weybosset Street. As GoLocal reported in April, the facade of the former bank building on Weybosset has been transformed into a revolving art installation by Paolino and The Avenue Concept.
The first installation by painter Philippe Lejeune was completed in June.
Both the projects enhance Providence and both are strong examples about strong corporate leadership.
