Ultimate Bootcamp Comes to Rhode Island

Get that beach bod on order with Ultimate Bootcamp, which arrives in Rhode Island this month.

With beach and sports season looming, it's time to go to bootcamp. And this summer, two new drill sergeants are in town: Peter Lavelle and Jill Tomich of Ultimate Bootcamp.

The New England fitness company has announced its first outdoor workouts in Providence, beginning this month. Ultimate Bootcamp classes feature creative exercises, high-energy trainers and positive motivation. Participants lose pounds off their bodies and minutes off their race times in a fun, group environment.

GoLocal spoke to Peter Lavelle about their fitness invasion of the 401.

What do you hope to bring to Rhode Island, specifically, with Ultimate Bootcamp?

For almost a decade, Ultimate Bootcamp has been delivering outdoor fitness to people of all fitness abilities, in an enjoyable format that delivers on our promise. Being one of the region’s first providers of outdoor boot camp programs, we have enjoyed bringing awareness to an exercise option that many people had not previously considered. It’s that very awareness that we’re bringing to the residents and communities of Providence; that fitness can – and should – be fun, even when it’s about results! Providence continues to demonstrate its welcoming attitude towards change, growth, and new ideas; we are looking forward to becoming part of that forward-thinking culture and society.

As holders of the title “Ocean State”, residents get to show off! They get to show off their coastline, and now (we hope) their waistline! The ‘Ocean State’ moniker is aimed at tourism, so why not show off the people as much as the state?! As a renaissance city, Providence can now embrace yet another new dawn, and exercise its way through that dawn!

Who comes to your bootcamps more, men or women, and what are their motivations?

Having served more than 6,000 eager participants, Ultimate Bootcamp has found that its appeal registers more with the female population. While men love the workouts, women seem to identify with the spin-off social aspect of the classes. Since they’re out there together three or four times a week, they’re making new friends, they’re peer-pressuring one another into accountability (which is a great motivator when you’re ready to blow off a workout!), and they’re naturals at building terrific supportive environments. There’s nothing better than seeing people encourage and push each other to get more from their exercising, and Ultimate Bootcamp participants seem to be experts at that! While the name “Ultimate Bootcamp” can be intimidating to some, it is even more encouraging for beginners and first-timers to show up on the first day and realize that they are not alone. Everyone goes home happy, sweaty, a little sore, and filled with a great sense of accomplishment (and maybe some dirt on their shirt too!).

Ultimate Bootcamp will launch a four-week Ultimate Bootcamp in Providence on May 14th, with new bootcamp sessions beginning every four weeks throughout summer and fall. The classes will be held at Neutaconkanut Park and downtown at Memorial Park. Both early morning and evening workouts will be available.
