He was the lead hair stylist on Sex and the City 2, he made Anne Hathaway fabulous on film, and he's GoLocalProv's weekly style expert. Frank Barbosa, the Newport-based celebrity stylist, brings red carpet perspective to hair, makeup, and overall style.

 

When we think foundation, don't we think about what holds up everything... from homes to bridges. When done correctly like great architectual design, the foundation of your hair will reap the same glorious results. Here are some steps leading up to a great foundation.

1. Shampoo schedule

In order for a good foundation to work, shampoo and condition to treat the scalp and hair every other or third day if possible. Second-day hair hair is the best, it's often said. This schedule gives your foundation the time to set in.

2. Support it right

Add the proper setting lotions and potions, such as gels, mousses, wax and/or pomades, to add dimension, movement and style.

3. Style like you mean it.

Last but not least, take care with your actual styling activity. Blow dry to smooth iron to set and wave, or dry set (meaning rollers, clips, braids, or the like) to that give those tresses energy. One, two three!

From Sex and the City 2 to Rachel Getting Married, from The Sorcerer's Apprentice to Bride Wars, Frank Barbosa has styled some of the biggest celebrities in film, TV, and theater. He's just finished styling on location alongside film stylist Alan D'Angerio on the film, The Odd Life of Timothy Green, starring Jennifer Garner. He's been in the industry for 17 years, moving from hip neighborhoods in Chicago, to Boston's Newbury St, to Bellevue Avenue in Newport. He maintains that his real passion, though, is being behind a salon chair at Frank Antonio Hair and Makeup in Newport.
