look umbrella

Rock the rain with an umbrella that protects and represents you

He was the lead hair stylist on Sex and the City 2, he made Anne Hathaway fabulous on film, and he's GoLocalProv's weekly style expert. Frank Barbosa, the Newport-based celebrity stylist, brings red carpet perspective to hair, makeup, and overall style.

Here in Rhode Island, we are known to have some beautiful fall weather, but alas with the falling leaves comes fallen drops of water. Here are some sure-fire tips to keeping your 'do flawless and fun in the rain.

Invest in a fabulous umbrella

This will be your best friend and protector, so why lug around a little drab something you picked up on the street? An umbrella is a true accessory for one's wardrobe, so be sure it represents you. When I'm working in NYC I hear compliments on umbrellas constantly... they take this seriously, and here's a real opportunity for you to look equally fabulous outside as well as underneath!

Bring your hair up, up, up

A very high pony on top of your head is easily covered by your rain hood, so plan ahead and pull up your locks for a day that takes you out and about. Just remember : when arriving at your destination, remove the band and shake through. Apply a little gloss like DevaCurl's MirrorCurls Reflective Shine Serum.

Braid it

A rainy day is a perfect day for a braid or twist-up... again, these are easily contained by your rain hood. Even a low side pony will work. Just tuck and run!

From Sex and the City 2 to Rachel Getting Married, from The Sorcerer's Apprentice to Bride Wars, Frank Barbosa has styled some of the biggest celebrities in film, TV, and theater. He's just finished styling on location alongside film stylist Alan D'Angerio on the film, The Odd Life of Timothy Green, starring Jennifer Garner. He's been in the industry for 17 years, moving from hip neighborhoods in Chicago, to Boston's Newbury St, to Bellevue Avenue in Newport. He maintains that his real passion, though, is being behind a salon chair at Frank Antonio Hair and Makeup in Newport.
