Remember that long can be yours at any age... if it's what you want.

He was the lead hair stylist on Sex and the City 2, he made Anne Hathaway fabulous on film, and he's GoLocalProv's weekly style expert. Frank Barbosa, the Newport-based celebrity stylist, brings red carpet perspective to hair, makeup, and overall style.

A few weeks ago we talked about the short hair myth and showed how short hair was gorgeous at any age. This week we look at it from a different perspective. Conventional wisdom says that as women age they must cut their hair shorter, but what I bet you never heard is that it was a fad of the 1950s. It never took hold outside of the United States, and it's time we realized that women as they age can make long locks as beautiful as they are.

Want to grow it out? Do it! Here some recommendations when thinking of a new look to carry through the second chapter of the fashionable you.

As you move through different chapters of your life, you should not only dress for that chapter but you should work with a professional who specializes in your look, whether it be hair, makeup, or clothing.

If you've worn your hair short most of your life and that works for you now as well, thats' a beautiful thing. But if you haven't, don't feel you have to make an extreme change to fit some conservative norm. If long hair makes you feel sexy, confident and brilliant as an older woman, it will show! You'll be fabulous and think of yourself as such.

The one thing you can, and should, do for yourself in this coming 2012 is to create the most positive, brilliant you imaginable, and that should be your promise to yourself from the inside out. Long and loose, or short and glamorous, you'll be ready for your brilliant new year.

{image_2}From Sex and the City 2 to Rachel Getting Married, from The Sorcerer's Apprentice to Bride Wars, Frank Barbosa has styled some of the biggest celebrities in film, TV, and theater. He's just finished styling on location alongside film stylist Alan D'Angerio on the film, The Odd Life of Timothy Green, starring Jennifer Garner. He's been in the industry for 17 years, moving from hip neighborhoods in Chicago, to Boston's Newbury St, to Bellevue Avenue in Newport. He maintains that his real passion, though, is being behind a salon chair at Frank Antonio Hair and Makeup in Newport.
