He was the lead hair stylist on Sex and the City 2, he made Anne Hathaway fabulous on film, and now he's GoLocalProv's weekly style expert. Frank Barbosa, the Newport-based celebrity stylist, brings red carpet perspective to hair, makeup, and overall style.

What excites me about the beauty industry this week is I have been working with an amazing group of people on a new Disney production (featuring the always lovely Jennifer Garner, right), and in my down-time on the set, I have been able to work with artists from all departments of our crew. The one thing that artists have in common? Individuality! So I've been enjoying being able to create some great looks on other crew members. It's been a great way to pass the time.

Here are some tips in setting your own individual look, whether you're a stylist, a filmmaker, a star, or a mom (or all of the above).

1. Start with a question: Ask yourself how you see yourself fitting into society, or the peers you work with. Assess your essence, and think about how you can embellish on that.

2. Now: what are you passionate about? Is it the color red? Or amazing hats? Do you like to write? Fit it all into your look. Red-lovers: get that fiery shade into your hair color for fun and flare. Hat-lovers: hit the shops (and spring sales) and pick out an original head wrap or hat. Writers? Think Carrie Bradshaw, and become the most fabulous, cosmopolitan, sultry writer in town. Just because you're into words doesn't mean you can't be sexy! Smart is very sexy.

3. Push the envelope with your trusted stylist: let that professional help you out. Get his or her suggestions on where to shop, what shades to try, even for a new hair tool. Spring is here, and we're all in bloom!

4. Remember: you will be here longer than beauty and fashion trends, which come and go. Make it about you, have fun, and your look is sure to be as fabulous as you are.

From Sex and the City 2 to Rachel Getting Married, from The Sorcerer's Apprentice to Bride Wars, Frank Barbosa has styled some of the biggest celebrities in film, TV, and theater. He's currently styling on location alongside film stylist Alan D'Angerio on the film, The Odd Life of Timothy Green, starring Jennifer Garner. He's been in the industry for 17 years, moving from hip neighborhoods in Chicago, to Boston's Newbury St, to Bellevue Avenue in Newport. He maintains that his real passion, though, is being behind a salon chair.
