The LOOK: Fall Colors For Your Hair

Saturday, September 22, 2012

We're seeing aesthetic inspiration from nature this season in bold colors. You can go all the way, shown here, or temper your look with warmer, deeper tones under your top layer.

He was the lead hair stylist on Sex and the City 2, he made Anne Hathaway fabulous on film, and he's GoLocalProv's weekly style expert. Frank Barbosa, the Newport-based celebrity stylist, brings red carpet perspective to hair, makeup, and overall style.

The new fall look is pretty amazing this season, and our favorite fashion mags and runway shows are catapulting us into our look for the most fashionable seasons--Fall and Winter.

Here are a couple of highlighted looks for fall with some key words for you to use with your stylist this season

1. The colors of Fall leaves

We are seeing colors in the shades of fall leaves this year, from clothing to hair to makeup. Think gold, copper, and bronze and also think of different ways to incorporate them into your hair.  Using warmer, deeper tones closer to skin and root and then mostly feathering out lighter tones to the ends is a great approach for your stylist to try. Keep them under your top layer of hair so as not to be mistaken with color blocking (that was the rage 8 years ago!). This modern twist is softer and elegant.

2. Glaze it over

When coloring for your fall look, ask to be glazed over to lock down warm tones. They can fade fast, so not only will a glaze postpone that eventuality, but it will add a healthier, shiny look over summer-stressed hair.

3. Learn a few tricks

Last but not least, always ask for a lesson in styling to maximize your color placement. You won't see the tones if they're not in movement with the cut.

Happy fall! Let's play in those leaves!

From Sex and the City 2 to Rachel Getting Married, from The Sorcerer's Apprentice to Bride Wars, Frank Barbosa has styled some of the biggest celebrities in film, TV, and theater. He's just finished styling on location alongside film stylist Alan D'Angerio on the film, The Odd Life of Timothy Green, starring Jennifer Garner. He's been in the industry for 17 years, moving from hip neighborhoods in Chicago, to Boston's Newbury St, to Bellevue Avenue in Newport. He maintains that his real passion, though, is being behind a salon chair at Frank Antonio Hair and Makeup in Newport.
