The LOOK: 3 Hottest Oscar Looks and How to Get Them

Thursday, March 03, 2011

He was the lead hair stylist on Sex and the City 2, he made Anne Hathaway fabulous on film, and now he's GoLocalProv's weekly style expert. Frank Barbosa, the Newport-based celebrity stylist, brings red carpet perspective to hair, makeup, and overall style.

Was everyone watching the Oscars? Did everyone dish the dresses the next day? And the next? Now it's time to pick the three best-coiffed women on the red carpet, and let you in on how to steal their look.

Coming in third: Natalie Portman...

...With a classy side-swept low wave. This look reveals your neck and still manages to keep hair down and flowing. It can be really sensual and sexy for good a night out with your love.
How to steal it: Curl-iron your hair. Don't be consumed with the whole head, just curl where you can, then gather your locks to one side using a lowpony band. Wear it low. Anything not reaching around, or too straight, just tuck into your side sweep. Be creative.

Coming in second: Anne Hathaway...

...With a beautiful, glam look. It's all about using your hot tools now girls. If you've been reading me and practicing, you should all know how to work a flat iron to your advantage.
How to steal it: Start at bottom. Clip hair high on your head and try to get section by section done. Don't open your iron; an easier up-to-date way to work your iron would be to just twirl your hair around the iron leaving end long enough not to burn finger. After curling, hair spray your bristle brush and brush your hair through. Finish with shine spray.

Coming in first: Reese Witherspoon...

... Looking her most glam ever with an elegant, grown-up, sexier look: a full, high-class-60s-inspired do.
How to steal it: You can find a beautiful half-wiglet, or switch, if your hair isn't that full. Your stylist will know where to lead you... a good Web site or store. In RI my personal favorite is Two Brothers Beauty Supply on Westminster St in Providence.

From Sex and the City 2 to Rachel Getting Married, from The Sorcerer's Apprentice to Bride Wars, Frank Barbosa has styled some of the biggest celebrities in film, TV, and theater. He's currently styling on location alongside film stylist Alan D'Angerio on the film, The Odd Life of Timothy Green, starring Jennifer Garner. He's been in the industry for 17 years, moving from hip neighborhoods in Chicago, to Boston's Newbury St, to Bellevue Avenue in Newport. He maintains that his real passion, though, is being behind a salon chair.
