“Say Yes to the Dress” Prom Dress Drive For Blackstone Valley Teens

Friday, March 22, 2013

Give Blackstone Valley teens a chance to get a gently used prom dress, as well as learn how to prevent dating violence at Say Yes To The Dress April 17 and 18.

With spring officially here, it's not only the perfect time to do some cleaning, but also revive a vintage prom dress. And, what better reason than to help make a teen’s dream come true by donating it to her.

The “Say Yes to the Dress” drive, set for April 17 and 18, 2013, is being organized by the Pawtucket Community Partnership Team Against Violence (Blackstone Valley Advocacy Center, the City of Pawtucket, The Children’s Workshop, The Housing Authority of the City of Pawtucket, and the Pawtucket Prevention Coalition). The group is comprised of voluntary leaders who foster community involvement in prevention efforts and activities that keep children focused on healthful and positive activities.

At this year's "Say Yes to the Dress”, attendees will receive complimentary prom dresses, makeup sessions, food and treats at the event, as well as, education about dating violence, healthy relationships, and substance abuse. No one will be turned away—last year approximately 150 youth attended, and this year, more are expected. Every dress counts!

How to donate

With this in mind, the Pawtucket Community Partnership Team is accepting gently used, clean dress donations at any one of the locations at The Children’s Workshop, Clutter Queen's Closet Resale Shop (80 Higginson Avenue in Lincoln), or at the Woodlawn Community Center (210 West Avenue, Pawtucket) by April 12, 2013.

Dress donors may also contact the Blackstone Valley Advocacy Center at 401-723-3057 to make drop-off arrangements or for more information about the program.
