Nancy Sinatra’s gogo boots may have walked all over but today’s fashionistas run, play, and work in boots. Women are donning them earlier in the season than ever before and are now keeping them on until sandal weather. Boots add an element of sexy allure with skirts, pants, jeans and even dresses. A woman in boots commands the room no matter where she is standing, which makes finding that dream pair a must. Here are some tips for making the right booty call for you:

Riding Boots

Always classic, riding boots are the little ballet flats of winter. Chic and monied, these “horsey” boots are perfect for work or weekend. They look equally great with skinny jeans tucked into them but can easily go to the office with a skirt and sweater or knit dress. Black is the most popular color for riding boots but they can be found in rich browns too. Details like leather ankle straps and shiny buckles are important elements that give them that required authentic feeling. Riding boots are one of the most expensive so check out TJ Maxx and Marshalls for more gentlypriced ones. But go often so as not to miss a nice pair. If you’re willing to spend, Nordstrom carries several designer brands in both black and brown.

Trendsetting

Contemporary style mavens may prefer more edgy, ontrend boots for modern appeal. Search for chunky heels, wedges, or stilettos for a flirtatious look. As well, laceup boots or bows running up the back draws scrutiny of the right kind. For the vixen in you, try overtheknee which are hypersexy with fitted jeans on the weekend. Scour smaller city boutiques for the very latest in boots with extras. Queen of Hearts/Modern Love has gorgeous current styles, such as The Ruth, a classic heeled boot with the twist of cognacburnished leather. 222 Westminster St., Providence

Rugged Classic

For artistry and craftsmanship, roughhewn boots look both toughasnails and innocently charming at the same time. Frye Boots are unparalleled in this genre for an allAmerican sensibility that’s avantgarde cool. Costly but longlasting, they look better as they age. Except for office attire, pair them with absolutely everything else in your closet. Savon Shoes, 1720 Mineral Spring Ave., North Providence

Come Slither

Not just for cowboys, faux snakeskin is a surprising new texture in tall feminine boots. It offers a great alternative color when you need a light neutral shade to go with winter whites and other

pales. Wear snakeskin boots for sleek elegance with a caramelcolored wool coat or cream dinner dress. asos.com or H &M, Providence

A Word About Fit

If you need a wider boot for heavier calves, don’t fret. There are many styles with lycra inserts for pullingon ease. Some boots are marketed just for this solution so do an online search first to find the best brands before you shop. There’s a boot style for everyone, even those who are hardertofit.

Boots capture the imagination and somehow feel empowering. A woman in the right pair of hip boots may not rule the world...but she sure looks like she could!
