Nothing is more romantic than the Newport mansions at the holidays. The month is full events at the properties, including a special holiday evening at the Breakers on Saturday.

Another exciting weekend is on the way in Rhode Island, and we have five fabulous ways to enjoy it.

Holiday Evening at The Breakers, Newport

Saturday  Make your holiday season shine with the sparkle of silver ,the glitter of gold and the warmth of the spirit at the Newport mansions this holiday season. The Breakers, The Elms, and The Marble House are all elaborately decorated with holiday wreaths, thousands of fresh flowers, and towering Christmas trees. Each mansion is open for tours starting at 9am at The Breakers and 10am for The Elms and The Marble House. This Saturday, take a leisurely evening tour through the beautiful historic Vanderbilt mansion while swaying to live holiday music.  Make your taste buds swoon with sample holiday sweets, eggnog and cider.  44 Ochre Point Ave,  Newport, (401) 847-1000. Holiday Open House: Lucy Aldrich's WWII Era Christmas, Providence

Saturday  Kick off this holiday season with a blast from the past at a WWII-era vintage Christmas celebration at The Aldrich House.  Twist and shout with The Hummingbird Trio's classic 1940's harmonies and irresistible rhythms inspired by legendary band The Andrews Sisters.  Enjoy refreshments and samples as Elyssa Tardif, the Director of the Goff Center for Education and Public Programming, will give some food for thought by leading a talk on what foods were most popular during this fascinating era. 2-5pm. 10 Benevolent Street Providence, (401) 331-8575.  For more information, go here.

Christmas 10K Run and 5K Walk, Newport

Lace up your sneakers for a good cause this weekend at the Newport 10K Run + 5K Walk to benefit oncology programs at Women & Infants Hospital.

Sunday  Fight for an amazing cause in a festive way at the Christmas 10K Run and 5K Walk in Newport. The run and walk pays homage to Tricia Lovett Stallman and all the women who have been touched by cancer. All participants should go directly to Rogers High School Cafeteria for post-race refreshments and awards after they have finished.  All proceeds from the race will benefit Woman & Infants-The Program in Womens' Oncology Integrative Care Program.  There are many opportunities to win prizes, including the runner with the best holiday costume.  15 Wickham Road, Newport.  Race starts at 10am, registration is at 8:15am. $25 race day registration at Rogers High School. Coastline Show Chorus at Courthouse Center for the Arts, West Kingstown

Sunday  Fill your Sunday with stirring songs and exciting choreography as the all-female  Coastline Show Chorus treats West Kingstown with their distinct brand of entertainment. "Aquatic Parallels" Dance Show at Empire Black Box Theatre, Providence

Friday and Saturday   Urban Coastal Dance presents "Aquatic Parallels", a cutting edge, full length dance performance that illustrates the intricate similarities between body systems and aquatic environments.
